LOCATION INSPIRATION FOR PHOTOGRAPHY SESSIONS IN KANSAS CITY

Having trouble deciding the location for your session?  Check out these images for some inspiration!

WEST BOTTOMS

The following images are all taken in the West Bottoms.  The West Bottoms is one of my favorite spots to shoot.  It has so much texture, color and a wide array of backdrops.  It has more of an industrial feel but as you can see, green space can also be incorporated.  The West Bottoms is just a few minutes west of downtown Kansas City.

Please keep in mind that this area is constantly changing and I’m always finding new nooks to shoot in. Not all of these areas may be available on any given day due to photography restrictions, events, or the owner of the building may paint a new colorhttp://www.westbottoms.com

PLAZA SECRET SPOT

Another favorite spot of mine is located in Kansas City, MO near the Country Club Plaza.  It is green and filled with wild flowers during the Spring and Summer.  During the fall it turns to a golden wonderland perfect for Fall sessions.  In the winter it is my go-to spot because the tall grass is golden and makes for stunning images.  Year round this is one of my favorite spots in the city! It isn’t very busy and the wait time at popular spots is minimal.

LOOSE PARK

Loose Park is the largest and most iconic park in Kansas City.  This sprawling park sits just south of the country club plaza in Kansas City and offers luscious landscapes throughout the park. Loose Park requires a city permit. The permit takes about a week to process and is $25/hour of shooting.  I apply for the permit but the cost is the responsibility of the client. Although I love this park at all times of day, it is best to schedule a morning session or a week night because it is a very crowded park!  Even at non peak times be prepared to wait for popular stops! http://kcparks.org/park/loose-park/

CROSSROADS ART DISTRICT

The crossroads are another ‘city’ type setting in a very artistic neighborhood.  It boasts alleys, a gorgeous ivy wall and grafitti if you are looking for an urban look.  This location is off limits the first Friday evening of each month due to an event. The crossroads is very popular so be prepared to wait for popular stops and some spots are only available on certain days so if you love something make sure to let me know!  http://crossroadskc.com

SCOUT LOOKOUT

Not too far from the west bottoms and the crossroads is quite a view of the Kansas City skyline. It can be very busy and may require a slightly different vantage point or wait.

The Nelson Atkins Museum in Kansas City is just east of the country club plaza.  It has gorgeous landscaping with a touch of architecture making gorgeous images.  Spring brings amazing purple hues and the summer sunset is gorgeous on both the south and north lawns.  http://www.nelson-atkins.org

Sar Ko Park is a very pretty park in Lenexa.  My favorite area of the park makes it appear you are in a field without the having ticks and mosquito bites left on you.  To achieve the look in the pictures you must be willing to have your session near sunrise!  You won’t regret it! http://www.lenexa.com/parks/parksname.html#S
